Barb Food Mart Update: April 2017

Special SHOUT OUT to Littlejohn staff and kids! Many of the staff members volunteered to help moms shop for the month of March. On the last Thursday, Andrew Clark and Nikki Schmidt brought their 5th graders over to stock shelves, clean food baskets and do garden clean up as part of LJ's Annual Day of Giving. On top of all of this, they brought boxes of paper goods for the families.   WOO HOO! Thank you!

Thank You!

A BIG thank you to Becky Mascal for coordinating once again the Laundry Detergent Fundraiser. She puts in lots of time organizing, selling and distributing. You are awesome!

Cortland gets a big SHOUT OUT for participating in this year's CROP Walk. Susan Bivens chaired the event again this year on behalf of BFM. You are wonderful!

THANK YOU to Val Pena, with help from Amy Crook, Wendy Kuryliw, and Dora Rodriguez, for teaching our moms how to use Skyward and Family Access, check their kids grades and sign up for November conferences. On October 15th, 30+ moms went home with their own cheat sheets so they can continue on their kids' Chromebooks. According to a couple of moms, it was "super bien!" Brian Tobin and Cindy Gasser made the tech happen.

We are sad to say good bye to Janelle Stein, U of I Nutrition Educator, as she stays home with her kids. Janelle has been with BFM from the very beginning, serving families tastings and recipes for over two years. We wish her well as she just serves two on Thursdays instead of 40+ at BFMsmile emoticon Thank YOU!

We need to thank:
1. Jefferson School and Westminster Church for paper appreciated by families!
2. Hy-Vee for four cartloads of paper goods! Carrie Massey and Lauri Hallgren passed out our wish list to shoppers and they really came through!
3. Naylor family for cleaning wipes....germs don't stand a chance!
4. Lizy Garcia, NGold intern, and her brother and sister for participating on behalf of BFM in the Altrusa Spelling Bee! They made it through round 4! Y-e-a-h!
5. Cindy Graves, Health Department, for coming to BFM to give flu shots....18 brave adults smile emoticon
6. HMS 7th grade Resource Classes helped to pack over 100 snack bags and stock shelves....awesome group!
7. HMS staff for volunteering this month even with 5 guys rock!
8. Our regular volunteers who make BFM the "funnest" food pantry around smile emoticon

We'd love to have turkeys and hams for our holiday raffles. If you see any good deals and can get an extra without being piggy, we will gobble it up smile emoticon
